Bethany Convent HS face St Joseph’s Educational Institute in final today

RAIA: Defending champions Bethany Convent High School defeated Mount Mary’s High School, Chinchinim, 4-0 to enter the final of 2nd All-Goa Inter-School football tournament organised by St Joseph’s Ex Students Association, Chandor, at Chandor church ground, on Saturday.

Josley Gomes scored the first goal for Bethany Convent HS in the 17th minute when he dribbled past the Mount Mary’s HS defenders and placed the ball into the goal.

At half time, Bethany Convent HS lead 1-0.

After the break, Bethany Convent HS boys tried hard for an equaliser but it eluded them. Josley scored again when he nicely connected the corner kick to make it 2-0. 

Mount Mary’s HS were unlucky to concede the 3rd goal when the shot of Steven Gomes deflected off the Mount Mary’s HS defender and entered into the net. Josley completed his hat-trick in the dying minutes when he headed the ball into the Mount Mary’s HS goal giving no chance to their otherwise agile goalkeeper.

Now, Bethany Convent will meet St Joseph’s Educational Institute, Chandor, in the final on Sunday.

Josley Gomes was declared the man-of-the-match which was handed over by chief guest veteran footballer Vincy Antao.

Earlier, riding on a hat-trick from Aayan Shaikh, St Joseph’s Educational Institute, Chandor, thrashed Our Lady of Carmel High School, Curtorim, 5-0 to enter into the final.

Aayan gave an early lead to St Joseph’s by scoring from a close range in the 6th minute. Before Carmel boys could recover from the early shock, Aayan taking advantage of the rival keeper, who fumbled to collect the ball, scored his second goal in the 7th minute. Carmel boys worked hard to come in the match but the Chandor boys seemed superior.

Trinsly Menezes made it 3-0 in the 11th minute and Casviro Fernandes scored the 4th goal just before the half time. At the breather, St Joseph’s Educational Institute were leading 4-0. Aayan completed his hat-trick when he scored his third goal in the 30th minute.

Aayan was declared the man-of-the-match which was handed over by chief guest Gustavo Furtado.

In the earlier match, riding on a hat-trick from Josley Gomes, Bethany Convent High School, Sao Jose de Areal, trounced St Xavier’s High School, Macasana, 6-0, to move into the next round.

Bethany Convent HS drew the first blood in the 5th minute when Josley’s free-kick gave no chance to the St Xavier’s High School goalkeeper. Steven Gomes made it 2-0 when he placed the ball beautifully into the St Xavier’s HS goal. Swelden Viegas’ powerful shot from outside the box gave no chance to the St Xavier’s HS keeper to make it 3-0.

At half time, Bethany Convent HS led 3-0.

After the break, Bethany Convent HS boys tried hard to score but their rival defence were too good. Josley scored again in the 27th minute to make it 4-0. Slone Tereza scored the 5th goal. Josley completed his hat-trick by scoring again in the dying minutes to make it 6-0.

Josley Gomes of Bethany Convent HS was declared the man-of-the-match, which was handed over by the chief guest Francis Peixoto.
