SSC launches app for live photo uploads in online exam forms

In Short

  • Candidates need to do fresh One Time Registration (OTR) on the new website
  • When taking live photos, candidates should not to wear caps, masks, or glasses
  • ‘MY SSC’ app can be downloaded from Google Play Store

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has introduced a new app for compulsory live photo uploads for online applications. This initiative follows complaints regarding challenges faced in uploading photos during the Selection Post Examination Phase-12. The app, titled 'MY SSC', is readily available for download from the Google Play Store.

The SSC has opted for live photo uploads to deter fraud through photo manipulation in recruitment examinations. To facilitate live photo uploads, adequate lighting and a plain background are required. Additionally, during the live photo capture process, individuals are advised not to wear caps, masks, or glasses.

Previously, candidates were required to submit photos no older than three months before the release of the recruitment notification. However, the commission lacked a system to verify the age of the photo accurately.

With the implementation of the SSC's live photo uploading rule, candidates will no longer need to repeatedly obtain new photos. They can simply use the 'My SSC' app to upload their live photos whenever they need to apply.

The SSC recently introduced a new website, ssc.gov.in, which became operational on February 17, 2024. However, the commission assured candidates that the previous website, ssc.nic.in, would remain accessible through a link provided on the new website.

“All candidates are advised to do fresh OTR on the new website of the Staff Selection Commission i.e., https://ssc.gov.in/, as One Time Registration (OTR) previously done on an earlier version of the commission’s website i.e., https://ssc.nic.in/, stands null and void. The detailed instructions for one-time registration may be seen under the section ‘For Candidates > Special Instructions > Instructions for filling One Time Registration (OTR),” read the official notice.
